Want to ditch shampoo and nourish your scalp without the greasy rebound? Read on to find out how.

Equipment

  • 2 small bowls

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tablespoon bicarbonate soda This plus the following water will be your shampoo
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar This plus the following water will be your conditioner
  • 3 tablespoons water

Instructions

  • Combine the bicarbonate soda with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl
  • Combine the apple cider vinegar with 3 tablespoons of water in a small bowl
  • Take the bowls into the shower and apply the bicarbonate soda like a shampoo, masssaging it into your scalp. Then immediately rinse and pour apple cider vinegar through your scalp and hair, masssage it in and then rinse it out completely.
  • I like to add an all natural ingredient conditioner after this and leave it to sit in my hair for a couple of minutes before rinsing it out but this is optional.

Notes

Every shampoo, even the naturals ones, failed me. My scalp was still irritated and dry from the disruption of the natural oils every shampoo creates. I tried only washing once per week and it still didn’t help. I then resorted to trying to quit shampoo altogether and you can bet my hair went greasy. I put up with it for a while, a super oily scalp and dry ends, until I came across this gem of a recipe!
Bicarbonate of soda naturally breaks down scalp build up while apple cidre vinegar, being near to your scalps pH level, conditions your hair wonderfully.
I use this method every 1-2weeks and in between I water wash and condition with an all natural ingredient conditioner. I wouldn’t recommend using this method more than once per week.
EVERY SCALP IS DIFFERENT AND MAY NEED TO ADJUST THE RECIPE SLIGHTLY.
If you find that your scalp gets a little sensitive after, try adding more water to your bicarbonate soda. With too little water, it can lightly burn your scalp! Too much water is better than too little in this case.
If you find that your hair isn’t feeling wonderfully conditioned, increase the volume of the mixture of apple cider vinegar and water as it may be that its not getting enough coverage. Alterntively you can try adding a tiny bit more apple cider – but not too much!
